The bathroom is not just a place where you can wash yourself. It is also a place for feeling comfortable in your own body. A pleasant living atmosphere that supports this goal can be significantly influenced by a bathroom rug.

Nomad rugs exude a lot of coziness and accentuate any room with their look. Imagine a rug in a warm colour like dark red or beige, lying on simple white tiles – modern yet understated. Combined with beautiful wooden accessories, your bathroom will be right on trend and will provide the desired feeling of comfort.

However, it is not just the atmosphere that a bathroom rug can decisively shape. A rug also reduces the unpleasant cold on the feet when standing on chilly tiles while brushing your teeth or getting ready for the day. Especially in the morning, it is nice when your feet don't freeze right away.

How do I find the perfect bathroom rug?

When searching for the perfect rug, you should always ask yourself a few questions. Among others, these are: What shape is your bathroom? If it is more elongated, a runner can be a very good choice. However, if your bathroom is square, a round bathroom rug can also be an unusual choice that gives your bathroom a distinctiveness. Besides the shape, the material from which the bathroom rug is made is of high importance. Natural fibres are particularly suitable. Because – and this is not known to everyone – a wool rug is dirt-repellent due to its high fat content. It can therefore be cleaned particularly well and offers significantly higher hygiene than synthetic fibres used in industrially produced rugs. Additionally, natural wool can neutralise odours and also regulates the humidity in the bathroom, which is a particularly important property in the bathroom.

Anyone with underfloor heating in the bathroom should definitely opt for hand-knotted bathroom rugs. Thanks to the hand-knotting, the knots allow air to circulate more easily, so your underfloor heating can work more effectively. It is also important not to choose a rug pile that is too high, because the higher the pile, the harder the heating has to work to achieve the same result. If, on the other hand, you have a traditional wall-mounted heating system, you can be more flexible when it comes to pile height. However, it is worth bearing in mind here too that a high pile gets dirty more easily, as fine dirt particles become trapped more readily than in short-pile rugs. For anyone who particularly values being able to clean the bathroom easily, Kilims are warmly recommended. These flat-woven rugs are very robust and long-lasting. Thanks to the way they are made, they are also less prone to dirt. And if one side does develop stubborn stains, you can simply turn a Kilim over. The design remains the same.

What to do and what not to do with Oriental rugs in the bathroom

What one should do

1. Use oriental rugs made from natural wool with good moisture resistance.
High-quality wool rugs such as Berber rugs are known for their durability and their natural ability to regulate moisture. They are excellent in well-ventilated bathrooms as they provide warmth and comfort underfoot while being robust enough for daily use.

2. Place the rug in strategic locations away from direct water exposure.
An ideal position is in front of the sink, next to a freestanding bath, or in a decorative area. Avoid placing the rug directly at the shower exit, as constant water contact can damage the colours and the structure of the fibres.

1. Do not use delicate rugs or materials in poorly ventilated rooms.
Bathrooms tend to have high humidity. Rugs with delicate fibres, such as pure silk, are prone to distortion, colour loss, or unpleasant odours in such environments. These pieces are better suited for dry living areas.

Even heavy rugs can slip on smooth bathroom floors, posing a safety risk. A non-slip underlay not only prevents accidents but also protects the underside of the rug from direct contact with moisture.
